“Worry is like a rocking chair it swings you back and forth and it takes you nowhere.”
I read this proverb the other day and it really resonated with me, as a small business owner and I’m sure many of you right now, regardless of your employment status would be feeling the same way.
When I set up Wavelength Recruitment in 2012, pregnant with our son Devon, I was full of worry. Worried that it wouldn’t work, that I wasn’t going to be able to run a business, worried that it would fail.
Eight years on, the worry seems to have been the constant denominator, driving me forwards and onwards.
However, during this dreadful pandemic, the worry is different. It something that action can’t defeat. Its something none of us can control, or plan around.
I like many of you worry about many things at this time;
- Do I call my customers to say Hi and stay in touch, or will they think this is inappropriate?
- Do I chase that outstanding invoice when I know my respected client is struggling at the moment?
- How and when will this end and then what happens next?
And so, to calm my mind, I reread this quote and remember that worry takes us nowhere.
Planning, remembering people and checking in on them and always being ethical – the mantra of my business – will take us through this.
Stay safe – Rachel
